To me being a DJ is a very important component to American life and the global celebration of music and/or dance. You have two basic elements in music and dance. You have the musician (or music) and you have the listener. The DJ came into Being with the advent of radio. When radio was invented, you now had music being played to great number of listenrs. Where ever there are tow or more people listening, a DJ helps create the mood and atmosphere that helps the listener both appreciate the music and, in some way, join in the celebration of the music. Music appreciation is slowly being phased out of our primary schools. Music was a part of the universe before we were.
